Venezia 2-2 Massese
This has to go down as another missed opportunity...even though we climbed back to the top of the table (on a joint basis).
We fought back from 1 down to take a 2-1 lead in the first half, but Massesse equalised halfway through the second and until that point were by all accounts the better team (Aprea had to save a penalty for us on the stroke of halftime).
However, Massesse then got a man sent off and we apparently went all out for a winner, but were unable to find one. The referee didn't help, failing to award a penalty for a clear foul on Rebecca, and then failing to award another for a handball in the area from a cross by Corradi.
Sadly, this result reflects the fact that we have yet to hit top gear again after the break, and a tricky away tie to Monza on Sunday doesn't look too appetising from that point of view (although Monza themselves seem to have suffered a loss of form recently). The form teams are Grosseto and Pisa, the latter managing a 1-0 win over league leaders Sassuolo.
The league table is incredibly tight, and a couple of results could see you plummet or climb very quickly. It's going to be a rough ride until the end of the season...

Updated League Table
As promised, here is the top of the league table:
1. Sassuolo P 19 W 9 D 7 L 3 GF 26 GA 14 Pts 34
--------------------------------------------------------------
2. Venezia P 18 W 9 D 6 L 3 GF 23 GA 14 Pts 33
3. Pisa P 19 W 7 D 10 L 2 GF 14 GA 7 Pts 31
4. Lucchese P 19 W 8 D 6 L 5 GF 26 GA 14 Pts 30
5. Cittadella P 19 W 7 D 9 L 3 GF 25 GA 18 Pts 30

6. Grosseto P 19 W 7 D 9 L 3 GF 24 GA 18 Pts 30
7. Monza P 19 W 8 D 6 L 5 GF 23 GA 18 Pts 30
Couple of bits of news to add as well; first, we look to be signing Matteo Momente' who was an Inter youth player I think who was supposed to be quite good, and should add some spice to our attack; second, I forgot to mention that it is also Pisa - Sassuolo this weekend, which surely has 0-0 written all over it, so hopefully another chance to climb back to the top of the table!

Friday Night Blues
Padova 1-0 Venezia
I know, I know - it's taken me a few days to update the blog. In part that's because I'm a lazy so and so, but also, it's because of the disappointment of last Friday's result.
The game was, of course, on TV, so I am more in more of a position than normal to discuss the game in detail, but the truth is, I have no real desire to! Between this result and the Pro Sesto result, I am starting to think being on TV is bad luck for us! To sum up, it was a frustrating game - we dominated for large spells, but although we had some nice moves and link up play (particularly involving Pradolin and Moro, two youngsters surely destined for bigger and better things), we hardly created a real chance.
Padova, on the other hand, created one - our defence fell asleep when their left winger got to the byline and pulled the ball back, allowing Russo to score an easy goal midway through the second half. We pressed for an equaliser, but again didn't really create anything, and though a draw would have been a fairer result, we couldn't say we deserved a goal. Collauto, so many times our most impressive player, had a particularly poor game down the right.
The good news was that Pisa lost 2-0 at Grosseto. Sassuolo managed a win though, meaning we slipped back to 2nd, one point off the top. Hardly a disaster, then, and the performance, up to the opponents penalty area, was in the main encouraging. Two other things also give me hope: first, Di Costanzo has come out and said we are not shooting enough as a team, which shows he recognises the problem; and two, our new signing Romondini is meant to be a creative link up man for the midfield and attack, and so should help us create more chances.
Massesse next, followed by a tricky away tie to Monza. 6 points there and we will be cruising, 4 and we'll be doing okay. Anything less, and I will really start to worry given how close the table actually is from about 10th place up...
(PS - I will post an updated table asap, just to show I'm not bitter. Can't be bothered at the moment!!)

Top of the League!!!

Venezia 1 - 0 Ivrea
What a start to the new year! A 1-0 victory coupled with a defeat by a similar scoreline for Sassuolo at Cremona and we are clear leaders!
Before I get to that, I should also say that in the final game of last year, we managed a very good 0-0 draw away to Pisa - which looks all the better seeing as they won 4-0 (Yes, Pisa scored more than a goal in one game!) at the weekend.
So, a 1-0 victory - hardly our best performance, but it was enough. We dominated the first half and could have added to our lead, but the second half was more consolidation, which we managed fairly comfortably, Ivrea only really creating one real chance - a long range shot which our stand in keeper Aprea did well to save.
Next up - the derby against Padova, which is being shown live on RaiSportSat on Friday evening, so I will be able to watch the league leaders in action!
